Passing the Torch to the Youth

The South Bay Traditional Jazz Society has a youth outreach program in order to "pass the torch" on to the next generation of traditional jazz musicians.

Contact the SBTJS Director of Youth Activities at:

If you are a young musician interested in learning more about Traditional Jazz, please contact us so we can offer guidance, instruction, and a chance to play more of this music!

For those who would like to make a donation toward jazz camp scholarships for young trad musicians, please contact us and learn how you can help, or see our Membership & Donations page.

Over the years we have sponsored young musicians who would benefit from attending these jazz camps or festivals, if they had funding to do so:

In August 2016 we provided full scholarship for two young musicians to the Teagarden Jazz Camp. Trombonist Karen Cruz and banjoist Vincent Arganza were members of the high school band "Dixie Dominus." Some will remember them when they played a set for the SBTJS in March of 2015.

Clarinetist Rebecca Rodriquez (second from right) attended the 2015 Mammoth Jazz Camp on a scholarship from SBTJS.
